A shopper was stabbed after a confrontation with another man at a Tesco supermarket.

Officers said the 39-year-old man was shopping in Tesco Express on Leytonstone High Road, about 5pm on July 14, when he became involved in a disagreement with another man.

This then escalated into a physical fight outside the supermarket.

The victim was followed and stabbed by the man on nearby Francis Road. The suspect is believed to have used a Swiss army knife.

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries not described as life-threatening or life-changing, but police said: “He remains incredibly shaken by his ordeal.”

On Thursday, the Met released a CCTV image of a man they hope to trace.

Detective Constable Alexandra Varga said: “We know the images are not the best quality, however we hope members of the public will study them carefully and contact

“This was a sudden and utterly unnecessary escalation of violence and we must identify the person. Please don’t hesitate if you have information that could help.”
