Man spotted without face mask in taxi was hiding massive bag of cannabis

A passenger that caught the eye of police for not wearing a face mask during a taxi journey was discovered to be transporting a massive bag of cannabis.

Officers pulled over a taxi on Bank Lane in Kirkby on Saturday, February 6 after spotting a passenger in the rear seat wasn't wearing a face mask.

Police said as the taxi was stopping, the passenger jumped out carrying a large bag of cannabis and attempted to flee on foot.

After a short chase, officers caught up and arrested the man on Bank Lane.

He was arrested for Possession with Intent to Supply a Class B Drug and also issued with a Covid fine for not having his face covered in a taxi.

A photo posted by Knowsley Police on their Facebook page following the arrest showed the large, clear bag full of drugs as wide as the chair it had been placed.

Alongside the photo, a spokesman for the force posted: "On Saturday 6 February, officers stopped a taxi on Bank Lane, Kirkby after sighting a rear seat passenger not wearing a face mask.

"Before the taxi stopped, the male in the rear of the taxi jumped out with a large bag of cannabis and attempted to escape.

"A short foot-chased ensued and officers detained the male on Bank Lane, Kirkby, still in possession of the cannabis.

"The male was arrested for Possession with Intent to Supply a Class B Drug - Cannabis and also issued with a covid fine for not wearing a face covering in a taxi."
