Man spits at woman in Merriott as police step up patrols

Avon and Somerset police chiefs are stepping up patrols in a rural village after a man spat at a woman he saw walking in the woods near her home.

The woman, in her 20s, was walking in woodland just off Moorlands Road in the village of Merriott, near Yeovil, when she was approached by a male, police said.

The incident happened at around 7pm on the evening of Sunday, April 19.

"She was approached by a male," said a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police.

"He has proceeded to spit at her before leaving the scene. The neighbourhood beat team will carry out extra patrols in the area," he added.

"Anyone with information about what happened should report it online at www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/report, or call 101, and give reference number 5220085931."
