Man sparks hotel etiquette debate after his girlfriend slams him for stripping beds

We all have different approaches to hotel etiquette. Do you treat the room as you would your own, or do you disregard all notions of decency, even if that means leaving a mighty mess for the poor cleaner coming after you leave?

It's a question a hotel guest has been pondering on Reddit, as their girlfriend thinks the lengths they go to is pure madness.

They anonymous hotel-goer wrote: "When you stay in a hotel for a weekend away or whatever, when leaving the hotel I strip the bed, gather the towels and put them all in a pile in the shower or bath.

"My reasoning is that it makes the hotel workers' jobs easier. I heard they get like, seven minutes to completely ready a room, and also ensures that the bed is changed for the next person."

Many would applaud such efforts. Not the girlfriend however, as the man explained: "She thinks I'm mental. Do other people do this?"

Many people took to the comments section on the post to share their own hotel habits, with some hotel staff weighing in too.

One person said: "I don't strip the bed, but I put all towels in the bath, rubbish in the bin, used cups/glasses in same place and fold down the duvet and generally make sure the bed is tidy (but I don't make it)."

Similarly, another commented: "I do as you do. My husband used to laugh but now he won't leave the room unless it's done. It's free to help out and just shows a little respect."

Less considerate was this comment, though they redeem themselves with a gift: "I leave it as a complete mess and a note saying sorry it's a mess, with a tenner on the bedside table."

Hotel workers pitched in with their views and they were grateful: "Just so you know, I worked at a hotel and doing that does actually help the housekeepers big time. So please keep doing it, it’s a very nice gesture that is definitely appreciated by the staff!"
