Man snatches money from elderly women he'd asked for change

Two elderly women had money snatched while they were out shopping in Wirral.

Merseyside Police have been alerted after two separate incidents where a man targeted pensioners asking them for change and then stealing their cash in Liscard, Wallasey.

Today (Thursday, March 18) at around 10.35am a man asked an elderly woman on Liscard Way for change of a £2 coin and while she was distracted £180 was taken from her.

And on Tuesday, March 16, a woman in her 80s was also asked for change in the Cherry Tree Shopping Centre at 10.45am and had £90 snatched from her handbag.

In both thefts, the man is described as being around 5ft 11in tall and of average build with dark hair, and wearing black clothing.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for information following reports that two elderly ladies had money stolen while shopping in the Liscard area.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish if the two incidents are linked and CCTV enquiries have been carried out in the local area.

"Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111."
