Man snatched woman from street and repeatedly raped her while holding her captive for 13 hours

Nial Healey ( Greater Manchester Police )

A man who kidnapped a woman off of a street and then raped her multiple times has been jailed.

Nial Healey, 27, had met his victim earlier in the evening on 30 June, when a group of people were drinking at a house in the Moss Side area of Manchester.

The woman, in her 40s, rejected Healey’s advances, who then opted to leave.

Later in the evening, he spotted the woman on the street and punched her on the head and chest several times, causing her to fall to the floor.

She tried to hide by crawling underneath a car but Healey continued his attack before leading her to his house.

He then forced her into his bedroom and repeatedly raped her.

Healthy threatened to “smash her head off every wall” if she screamed for help.

Almost 13 hours later, Healey finally let the woman go and she went to the hospital where she was treated for a broken collarbone.

Healey was found guilty of six counts of rape, and pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Manchester Crown Court.

He was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 12 years at Manchester Crown Court.

“I just thought I was never getting out. I hope he now understands how it feels to be locked up, not knowing when you will get home,” the woman said in a statement.

Detective Constable Kimberley Hames-Evans, of Greater Manchester Police’s serious crime division, commended the woman’s bravery for coming forward.

“In this case a life sentence is the only sentence that goes some way to reflecting the amount of harm Healey has caused to the victim and I hope this sets a standard,” Detective Constable Hames-Evans said.
