Man smashes his car into a traffic light while more than three times over the drink drive limit

A man who ploughed his car into a traffic light at a busy junction was more than THREE times over the drink driving limit.

The crash happened at the junction of Plodder Lane and Harper Green Road in Farnworth, Bolton, at 11.30pm on Saturday night.

A 43-year-old was driving his silver Kia Sportage down the main road when he smashed into a traffic light.

Traffic cops at the scene asked the driver to carry out a breath test.

Tests showed he was three times over the limit with 107 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35mg.

He was taken into custody and is now awaiting charge, according to GMP's traffic unit.

The driver provided another breath sample at the police station.

The reading of 89 showed he was still at least two times over the legal limit.

This comes as Greater Manchester Police launched their drink and drug-drive campaign last week.

A total of 18 people were charged between Monday, June 24 and Friday, June 28 for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

They all had their name and address revealed on Facebook, Twitter and the force's website as part of the crackdown.
