Man slashed in the face in a daylight Sunderland city centre attack near Bridges Shopping Centre

A man has been slashed in the face in an attack near Bridges Shopping centre in Sunderland.

Police were called to the scene of a disturbance shortly close to the shopping centre shortly before 1.20pm on Monday (April 6).

There they found a 36-year-old man with slash wounds to his face and he was taken to hospital.

Officers have since charged a 52-year-old man with assault and for possession of a pointed article following the incident.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Yesterday at 1.18 pm we received a report of a disturbance near the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland.

“Following the disturbance, a 36-year-old man was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a facial injury.

“And a 52-year-old male was arrested and has been charged with assault and for possession of a pointed article.”
