Man slashed in the face after 'commotion' outside shop

A man has been slashed in the face after a “commotion” outside a shop.

Merseyside Police were called to Marion Square in Netherton following reports of an incident at around 7pm on Thursday, May 11. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a man in his 20s was slashed across the face outside a row of shops.

The man was taken to hospital for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening. People living in the area reported seeing a “commotion” in the street, with one describing what they thought looked like a “fight”.

The witness, who asked not to be named, said: “I saw a commotion in the street but I was getting into a taxi to goto the Bingo. All I know is it was some sort of fight and a lad got hurt.

“When will it stop?”

A cordon was put in place surrounding a number of shops including a bookies, a corner shop and a Heron Foods. People who arrived at the cordon were told they were not allowed to enter the shops behind the cordon due to an “incident”.

An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out in the area.

Chief Inspector Phil Cowin said: “The investigation is the early stages as we seek to establish what has taken place. I would ask if anyone was in the area of Marian Square this evening who saw or heard anything to contact us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting log 955 of 11th May.
