The witness, who asked not to be named, said: “I saw a commotion in the street but I was getting into a taxi to goto the Bingo. All I know is it was some sort of fight and a lad got hurt.
“When will it stop?”
A cordon was put in place surrounding a number of shops including a bookies, a corner shop and a Heron Foods. People who arrived at the cordon were told they were not allowed to enter the shops behind the cordon due to an “incident”.
An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out in the area.
Chief Inspector Phil Cowin said: “The investigation is the early stages as we seek to establish what has taken place. I would ask if anyone was in the area of Marian Square this evening who saw or heard anything to contact us as soon as possible.”
