Man slashed in stomach at iconic Liverpool city centre building

A man was taken to hospital after being slashed in the stomach in an iconic Liverpool city centre building.

Police and paramedics were called to the Grade II* listed India Buildings following reports of an assault at around 8.30am.

A man was found with a knife wound and taken to hospital as a precaution.

While the investigation is in its early stages, police are treating the incident as a domestic dispute and believe there is no wider threat to the public.

A spokeswoman said: " Merseyside Police received reports at around 8.30am this morning of a domestic assault which had taken place on Water Street , Liverpool.

"Emergency services attended where a man with a knife wound to his abdomen was located.

"He was treated by the ambulance service at the scene and was then taken to hospital as a precaution.

"We are continuing to carry out further investigations to establish the full circumstances."

The incident is believed to have taken place on the second floor of the landmark, which is the subject of a multi-million pound refurbishment ahead of the arrival of staff from HMRC at the complex.

Confirming officers attended the scene, a North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called to the India Buildings at 8.30am and took a man in his late 40s to hospital with minor injuries."
