A man was slashed and a woman assaulted in a Christmas Eve attack inside a house in Dovecot .
Onlookers told of a huge emergency service presence last night on Swanside Avenue, with at least five police vehicles attending the scene.
Officers were called to a property in the road shortly before 8pm .
This morning police confirmed a man and a woman were assaulted at the address.
A spokesperson said: "The male was slashed with an unknown implement, while the female was also assaulted.
"They were taken to hospital where their condition is stable."
Footage taken at the scene last night showed an ambulance parked outside a house with its Christmas lights on down a narrow street.
An onlooker at the scene said: "I'm not sure how long ago it happened but it looks like something serious and that someone is about to be put in the back of an ambulance."
