The man was taken to hospital for treatment of a facial injury. He has since been discharged, police said.
The offender is believed to have left the premises a short time after the assault.
He is described as a 25-year-old man with curly brown hair.
CCTV and witness enquiries are in the process of being carried out and police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at that time and saw anything suspicious.
Detective Inspector Paula Furlong said: “Enquiries are in the very early stages to establish what has taken place near the Jubilee Inn.
"I would appeal to anyone who was on Hatton Hill Road at around 10pm last night who saw or heard anything suspicious or any taxi drivers who were in the area who thinks they captured something on their dash cam to come forward and speak to us.
“The attack happened at a busy time of the night when people would have been nearby or in the premises.
"If you saw the incident or think you may know the man described, please contact police. Any information you have could prove vital to our investigation.”
