Man shot twice in Ballyfermot in botched hit was previously targeted by rivals in plot to kill him

A man blasted twice in a botched hit had been targeted before, the Irish Mirror has learned.

Detectives said they were stunned the victim survived the shooting on Wednesday. Up to 10 bullets were fired at him at around 7.30pm in west Dublin.

The man, in his 30s, was attacked as he sat in a car outside a house at Ballyfermot Crescent.

The shots were fired through the windshield and grouped together assassin-style. Sources revealed the man has previously been the target of murder bids, including one in recent times.

One said: “Gardai would be aware there have been attempts to get this individual before.

“But there’s no doubt it’s a miracle he wasn’t killed the other night. There was between seven and 10 shots fired. You don’t see many surviving those situations but he was only hit twice in the shoulder and backside.”

The victim was recovering in hospital last night. It’s understood the man, who was conscious when emergency personnel arrived, lost a lot of blood.

He is an associate of Darren Carey, 20, who was killed along the Grand Canal in Co Kildare 21 years ago.

A technical examination was undertaken by gardai at the scene of Wednesday night’s shooting and of the burned out car. No arrests have been made.

A Garda spokesman said: “Any road users in the Ballyfermot Crescent area between 7pm and 7.30pm who may have footage are asked to make this available.”
