Man shot near Josiah Pickard Elementary School: police

Chicago police investigate the scene where a man was shot in the 2200 block of South Oakley Avenue, Monday, Feb. 10, 2020. | Tyler LaRiviere/Sun-Times

A 38-year-old man is in serious condition after he was shot Monday on the Lower West Side near an elementary school.

He was walking about 3:52 p.m. in the 2200 block of South Oakley Avenue when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up, Chicago police said. Someone inside the vehicle fired shots, striking the man in the arm, shoulder and abdomen.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, police said.

At least half a dozen shell casings were found on the scene, which was across the street from Josiah Pickard Elementary School (2301 West 21st Place). It wasn’t clear if the investigation affected any after-school activities.

Chicago Public Schools didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
