Man shot, killed on Calumet City street

Desmond Stewart, who lived in South Holland, had been shot multiple times.

A man was fatally shot Wednesday on the streets of south suburban Calumet City.

Police were called to gunfire about 9:55 p.m. in the 300 block of Oglesby Avenue and found 32-year-old Desmond Stewart lying unresponsive on the ground, Calumet City police said.

Stewart, who lived in South Holland, had been shot multiple times, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Paramedics took him to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy released Thursday ruled his death a homicide.

Calumet City police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are conducting a homicide investigation.
