A 25-year-old man was fatally shot Monday afternoon in West Pullman on the Far South Side, according to police.

The shooting happened about 1:20 p.m. in the 11800 block of South Union Avenue, according to preliminary information from Chicago police.

The man was shot in his head and taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released details on the death.

On Oct. 1, another shooting in West Pullman wounded a fast food worker. The man, 22, was shot in his leg when another employee accidentally fired a gun. He was hospitalized in good condition.

Chicago police’s 5th District, which includes the Pullman and Roseland neighborhoods, has recorded 35 murders and 158 shootings this year through Oct. 4, according to CPD statistics. Compared with last year, that’s a 35% increase in murders and a 21% increase in shootings.
