A man was fatally shot Tuesday after a gunman chased him down a street in the South Chicago neighborhood.

He stepped out of a car about 9:15 p.m. in the 8300 block of South Crandon Avenue when a male approached him and fired shots, Chicago police said. The man ran but the gunman followed while shooting.

The man, identified as 32-year-old Terrence Brooks, was shot multiple times in the head and collapsed nearby, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy released Wednesday ruled Brooks’ death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
