Man shot in right knee during incident in Newtownabbey

A man has been shot in his right knee during an incident in Newtownabbey, police say.

The PSNI received reports at 7.05pm today that a man in his 50s had been injured in a shooting incident.

He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and while his injuries do not appear to be life threatening, they have the potential to be life-changing.

Officers are currently at the scene and enquiries are still in the early stages.

Inspector Julian Buchanan said: "At 7.05pm this evening, police received a report that a male had been shot in the right knee. The male, aged in his 50s, has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which at this time do not appear to be life threatening, but have the potential to be life-changing.

"Our enquiries are at an early stage, and I appeal to anyone with information to call detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1690 of 18/11/20.

"You can also submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100 per cent anonymous."
