Man shot in chest north of Brisbane, another assisting police

A 44-year-old man is assisting police in Brisbane after another man was shot in the chest in the Moreton Bay region, north of Brisbane.

The man presented to Redcliffe Hospital with a gunshot wound at 11:00am.

He remains in a critical condition.

Police have set up a crime scene has been set up at Dodds Street in Margate.

Detectives would like to speak with anyone who saw a motorbike leave Dodds Street on Wednesday morning, or anyone who saw a dark-coloured Mazda in the area at that time.

Jonathan McCann, who lives near the house where the shooting is believed to have occurred, said he heard the gunshot but that there were no signs of commotion.

"This morning there was a bit of a bang … I didn't think much of it because there was no screaming or anything like that," he said.

"Came out about an hour and a half later, the coppers were walking around the yard and kicked the door in issuing a search warrant.

"No-one was home and the coppers were a bit dumbfounded that there was no one there."
