A 48-year-old man was shot Saturday during a robbery in Belmont Central on the Northwest Side.

About 11:20a.m. he was in the 5800 block of West Belmont Avenue, when two men, one armed with a gun, got out of a white Nissan SUV, Chicago police said. As they struggled with the man while trying to take his bag, one of them shot him in the calf.

The two men then jumped back in the SUV and drove off with the man’s bag and money, police said.

Responding officers applied a tourniquet onto the 48-year-old man’s leg to stop the bleeding and then he was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition, police said.

No arrests have been made, police said. Area North detectives are investigating.
