Police responded to calls of fired shots Tuesday about 3:23 p.m. in the 1600 block of Emerson Street.

A man from Evanston was shot during a fight Tuesday in the north suburb.

Officers responded to the 1600 block of Emerson Street about 3:23 p.m. for a call of shots fired, Evanston police said. About 10 minutes later, a man arrived at Evanston Hospital with a gunshot wound to his hip. His condition was stabilized.

A preliminary investigation found the man, 28, was shot during a “physical altercation” in the parking lot, police said. He was a passenger in a vehicle and encountered two other people and started fighting.

During the altercation, one of the people took out a handgun and fired shots before running off, police said. Three shell casings were found on the scene.

No one is in custody as Evanston police investigate.
