Man shot dead in north-west London named for first time as police hunt killer

Victim Simon Whyte - (Met Police)

Police have named the victim of a fatal shooting in Brent as they hunt for his killer.

Simon Whyte, 55, was gunned down in Stonebridge on Friday evening and died at the scene despite desperate efforts to save him.

Detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Team are now appealing for witnesses, information and dashcam footage as they work to piece together the final moments of his life.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to a small group of people who were gathered nearby when the attack took place.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, said: "Firstly, our thoughts are with Simon's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

"Enquiries are well underway, and my team is working at pace to determine the circumstances that led to his tragic death.

"There's no doubt this incident will cause concern in the local community and more widely, but we have increased patrols in the area. I'd like to reassure the public that our investigation remains a priority.

"I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information, including dashcam footage, that will assist us with our enquiries to contact us at the earliest opportunity.

"We also believe there was a large group of people congregated nearby at the time the incident happened, and we are keen to hear from them."

Police were called at 9.35pm on Friday to reports of a shooting on West End Close in Stonebridge.

Officers arrived and gave emergency first aid to Mr Whyte, who had been shot. Despite the best efforts of police and the London Ambulance Service, he died at the scene.

No arrests have been made at this early stage of the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Met on 101, quoting CAD 8120/19DEC25. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
