Man shot dead in Gresham: police

A man was killed in a shooting Friday in Gresham on the South Side, police said.

He was on the sidewalk about 3:24 p.m. in the 7700 block of South Carpenter Street when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside unleashed gunfire, Chicago police said.

The 26-year-old was struck multiple times and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t released details on the death.

Area Two detectives are investigating.
