Man shot dead in Dublin near scene of AK-47 attack on boxing weigh-in

A man has been shot dead in Dublin in what is believed to have been a retaliatory attack for Friday's fatal assault on a boxing weigh-in at the city's Regency Hotel

The victim was shot in Poplar Row in the North Strand area of the city at 7:45pm on Monday, the Irish Garda (Police) said.

Irish news website, Thejournal.ie, has named the victim as Eddie Hutch Snr - brother of Gerry "The Monk" Hutch who was shot dead in Spain in September.

Multiple gunmen entered his home, shot him and then fled in a getaway car.

Emergency services and police have cordoned off the area surrounding the house.

On Friday, one man was killed and two others were seriously injured after gunmen dressed in "police style" uniforms with AK-47s stormed the hotel foyer.

The hotel was hosting a boxing weigh-in event ahead of a Clash of the Clans bout, but the fight is not thought to be linked to the attack and the gunmen did not target the boxers.

Both shootings are believed to be connected to a feud between Dublin gangsters and an Irish criminal outfit based in the south of Spain.

It is believed the murder of Gerry Hutch in September has provoked this latest wave of trouble between the capital's criminal gangs.

Thejournal.ie reported there was "evidence of a major fallout among Dublin's criminal underworld" over the weekend.
