Man shot dead in Chatham: police

A man was fatally shot Friday in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.

First responders found the 31-year-old unresponsive in an alley with gunshot wounds to his head and chest, Chicago police said. He was pronounced dead on scene.

The shooting happened about 5:55 p.m. in the first block of East 87th Street, police said.

A witnesses told investigators a gunman fired shots at the man and then fled in a black car, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released details about the case.

Area South detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
