An actor has been fatally shot on the Brisbane set of a music video for the Australian rap group Bliss N Eso.

The man, aged in his 20s, died after being shot in the chest during the filming of a scene that involved the use of “several firearms”, Queensland police said.

Police have launched a criminal investigation into the sudden death, which took place at an inner city bar, Brooklyn Standard, on Monday afternoon.

Inspector Tom Armitt told reporters: “We do not know specifically how those injuries occurred at this point in time and that’ll be the subject of our investigation.”

Armitt said any sudden death would result in “a criminal investigation until proven otherwise”.

“I can’t tell whether they’re live or real firearms, I can’t tell you the type of ammunition that was being used,” he said. “That will be the subject of the investigation.”

Armitt said the man who died was an actor, not a stunt person, and that “several firearms were discharged during the scene by several actors”.

Bliss N Eso confirmed a music clip was being recorded when the man was shot. The band were not on the set at the time.

“The video production crew and our team are currently working with the police in their investigation and we are unable to provide further comment at this time,” they said in a statement.

Armitt said police were called to the scene around 2pm, where the film crew were “actively performing [cardio pulmonary resuscitation] on the person”.

The crew and the production company were providing “100% support” to police, who were working with Queensland workplace health and safety and would prepare a report for the coroner, he said.

Brooklyn Standard released a statement via Facebook saying: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the individual involved.

“The incident occurred during a film shoot at the venue, for which Brooklyn Standard had been wholly rented out, outside of opening hours.

“We would like everyone to know that none of our staff were involved in the incident and everyone is safe, and we are doing everything we can to help the police investigation at this time.”
