A man has been shot dead by armed police outside an address in Enfield, north London.
A white male in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene on Cedar Road, Enfield, after armed officers attended just before midnight last night.
Scotland Yard said police had earlier received a call to an address in Barnet where a man, believed to be carrying a firearm, was making "threats to kill".
A non-police firearm was recovered from the scene in Enfield, officers said.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "The Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) is in attendance at the scene.
"As a matter of routine, the incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) for investigation."
The IPCC confirmed it had begun an independent investigation into the shooting, and said it had received a referral from the Met Police at 1.56am - less than two hours after police arrived at the address in Enfield.
A spokesperson said: "Investigators have been deployed to the post-incident procedure and will be going to the scene. The IPCC is in the early stages of investigating this incident. Further details will be released once available."
