Man shot dead at Biden victory rally after going to celebration to 'be part of history'

A man has been shot dead at a victory celebration for Joe Biden after going there to 'be part of history'.

MarQuies Demone Patterson, 31, was gunned down while leaving Cal Anderson Park, in Seattle, after festivities marking Biden's election win.

He was rushed to the city's Harborview Medical Center after being shot on Sunday morning and later died from his injuries.

It happened as hundreds of voters gathered in downtown Seattle to celebrate Donald Trump 's defeat.

Mr Patterson's mum Que Vasser revealed her son was at the rally because 'he wanted to be part of history'.

She said the father-of-two had been enjoying the event with his friends before the shooting.

The mother added: "He just wanted to go out and show his respect for the new president and the vice president.

"He just wanted to be part of something. He wanted to be part of history.”

Mr Patterson was shot as he walked away from his friends after saying goodbye to them, one of his pals told Ms Vasser.

The mum described her son as a 'hardworking, caring, loving, respectable young man' who was trying to make a life for his children, Seattle Times reports.

A Seattle police spokesman said: "Homicide detectives are investigating following the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man early Sunday morning at 10th Avenue East and East Pike Street.

"Shortly after 1:00 AM, Seattle Police responded to reports of a shooting at that location. Upon arrival, officers located the male victim and began life-saving measures until the Seattle Fire Department took over primary care.

"The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center but later succumbed to his injuries."

The suspect was seen fleeing the area on foot, according to the Capitol Hill Seattle blog.

Police have not yet made any arrests.
