A 23-year-old South Holland man was killed and another wounded in a shooting and crash Tuesday night in northwest Indiana.

Officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash about 7:20 p.m. at a parking lot in the 2200 block of Grant Street in Gary, according to a statement from Gary police.

The officers found two men with gunshot wounds in a black SUV that had crashed into a fence and several parked cars, police said.

Xzavier Edwards-Smith was taken to Northlake Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Lake County coroner’s office. His autopsy results were pending.

A 26-year-old man from Portage was also taken to a hospital for treatment, police said. His condition was not released.

Police said the incident started in the 2500 block of Grant Street.
