Swedish police have shot a man after he allegedly threatened to blow up a train station.

Officers fired at the man after he is said to have threatened to detonate a device at Malmo Central Station around 10am on Monday.

Evelina Olsson, a police spokeswoman, said that a bomb squad has been deployed to the station.

The man was taken to a hospital with injuries.

Tourist Dennis Gallagher told local newspaper Kvallsposten that it took the police three shots before the man fell to the floor.

He claimed the man ran towards him, adding: “When he ran, he dropped one of his bags, then picked it up again. But then the police caught up with him and could knock him down from behind.

“We were very scared when he came running towards us. But the police did very well.”
