A 28-year-old man is fighting for life after being shot by police in north-east London.

A police officer was also slashed as violence broke out following a reported "domestic incident” at a home in Hackney.

Armed officers were called to reports of a suspect "armed with knives and making threats to kill" on Tuesday night.

The man was rushed to hospital with a gunshot injury. Police confirmed the man was shot by a firearms officer.

The officer’s slash injury is not believed to be life-threatening, Scotland Yard said.

There were no other reported injuries.

Police were called to the scene at a residential address in Knights Close just before 9.45pm.

In statement, The Metropolitan Police said: “The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed.

“The Independent Office for Police Conduct are aware and have launched an independent investigation.”
