A man has been shot by police after allegedly driving towards an officer in Sydney.
A critical incident investigation is under way over the shooting in the inner suburb of Erskineville.
NSW Police say officers stopped a stolen Ford Falcon just before 10am on Tuesday.
A male passenger jumped out and fled, pursued by police.
The vehicle was then driven at an officer and police say a firearm was discharged before he drove off.
The passenger, a 38-year-old man, was arrested following a pursuit on foot.
The vehicle was found a short time later at a service station on the Hume Highway near Croydon.
The driver, 36, was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital under police guard.
He is in a stable condition.
Two crime scenes were established and a critical incident team will investigate, with the probe subject to an independent review.
