A man was wounded in a shooting Friday while shopping at a Foot Locker in the Ford City Mall on the Southwest Side.

He was shopping with a male about 12:55 p.m. at the mall, 7601 S. Cicero Ave., when the two started arguing and the male unleashed gunfire, Chicago police said.

The 22-year-old was struck twice in each arm and twice in the back, police said. He left through the back of the mall and took himself to Holy Cross Hospital, before being transferred to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

Police initially reported the man was working at the mall when he was shot.

A spokesman for Namdar Realty Group, which owns Ford City Mall, confirmed the shooting happened at the Foot Locker store and said that police had cleared the mall to reopen for business Friday afternoon, though some stores have decided to close for the rest of the day.

“We do not take this matter lightly, and our focus now is on evaluating the current policies in place to ensure the appropriate steps are taken to prevent further incidents of this nature,” the realty group said in a statement. “Informed by the results of the Police Department’s investigation, we will work to identify any need for further security measures to bolster those already in place and will respond accordingly.”

No arrests have been reported. Area Detectives are investigating.
