Multiple people were reportedly stabbed in Streatham, London, Sunday, according to police.
The Metropolitan Police Department initially said that two victims have been injured, then reported around 6 p.m. local time that three had been injured.
One person is in "life-threatening condition," one was treated for minor injuries at the scene and a third was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
A man has also been shot and killed by armed officers, police confirmed about 40 minutes after announcing the attack. It's unclear if he is a suspect.
Police said the incident has been declared "terrorist-related" but have not identified any motive.
Gulled Bulhan, a 19-year-old student, told the PA news agency that he saw the man shot outside of a Boots pharmacy on Streatham High Road.
"I was crossing the road when I saw a man with a machete and silver canisters on his chest being chased by what I assume was an undercover police officer," he said. "The man was then shot. I think I heard three gunshots."
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan thanked emergency services for their "swift and courageous response."
"Terrorists seek to divide us and to destroy our way of life _ here in London we will never let them succeed."
Local MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy tweeted that her "thoughts are with those injured, their families and those who witnessed the attack."
Barely two months ago, on Nov. 29, two people were stabbed to death and three others injured on London Bridge by 28-year-old Usman Khan, who police said was wearing a fake suicide vest. Khan had previously been convicted in 2012 of a terror plot that targeted the British Parliament, the U.S. Embassy, religious figures and Boris Johnson. He was released from prison in December 2018.
Police said the Streatham scene has been "fully contained."
