Man shot after 'a number' of people stabbed on London Bridge - police are treating it as terror-related

A man has been shot by police in an attack in London which police are responding to as terror-related.

Shocked witnesses watched as a suspect was restrained by armed officers and members of the public on London Bridge at around 2pm this afternoon.

Police say a number of people have been stabbed as the London Ambulance Service declared a "major incident".

Footage shows the suspect on the floor being disarmed before a man, thought to be a member of the public assisting officers, is seen withdrawing from the scene carrying a large knife.

The armed officers are then seen telling people to move out of the way as another man who was restraining the suspect is dragged off him.

The Met Police has now confirmed that the suspect was shot and detained by officers but his condition is unknown.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At this stage, the circumstances relating to the incident at London Bridge remain unclear.

"However, as a precaution, we are currently responding to this incident as though it is terror-related.

"One man has been shot by police. We will provide further information when possible."

Witnesses were seen fleeing the scene as some reported hearing several gunshots in the area.

Footage taken at the scene also showed a white lorry straddling the road, which was reportedly being searched by officers.

Connor Allen, who was in his van on the bridge when it was evacuated said: "Everyone just started running, you heard these pops and that was it.

"We just got out the van and started running."

One business owner told the PA news agency she had been crossing London Bridge to get to her shop on the north side when police officers stopped her.

She said that was when she heard at least five or six gunshots and said that her store has been evacuated.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "We heard shooting, it was about five or six shots, I heard five or six quite clearly. All my staff have been evacuated."
