Man 'shoots firework' from car waiting at traffic lights in Hartcliffe

A grandmother says she witnessed someone launch a firework from a car in Hartcliffe.

Marion Jackson, 55, was waiting at traffic lights after shopping at Morrisons, Peterson Avenue, when the missile was allegedly unleashed from an adjacent vehicle.

The Bedminster resident, who was with her young grandson at the time, told Bristol Live she was infuriated by what she saw.

Ms Jackson said: “I was absolutely fuming. I had my eight-year-old grandson in the car and I thought if there were any mums with their children outside [then it could have hurt someone].”

Ms Jackson was waiting at traffic lights on Silcox Road at around 3.30pm on Thursday (October 31) when the drama unfolded.

She said a male aged between 18 to 22 rolled down the passenger window of a black Audi to her right, before issuing a firework from the vehicle.

“He lit it and it shot off and I just thought, ‘I’ll try to get a picture of this car and the registration number’,” said Ms Jackson.

Bristol Live has hidden the registration number for legal reasons.

Describing her emotions upon seeing the firework fizz through the air, Ms Jackon said she was worried about pedestrians’ safety.

“There were a lot of young people in the bus stop opposite - there must have been about 10 to 15 people waiting for a bus - so I was a bit concerned,” said the youth worker, branding the man’s behaviour “irresponsible”.

Ms Jackson told Bristol Live yesterday (Friday, November 1) that she had not reported the incident to the police.
