Man 'shocked' by lack of social distancing outside Bristol Airport

A man was "shocked" to see the apparent lack of social distancing being exercised by people outside Bristol Airport.

Ron Lock sent the above picture to Bristol Live which shows around 15 people bunched together outside the transport hub.

He wrote: "Lovely bit of social distancing at the Airport this morning. Shocking."

According to the airport, the people pictured were due to board a flight to return back home to Cyprus.

A spokesperson said social distancing measures were maintained within airport buildings and staff outside the airport were on hand to provide reminders of these rules.

They said it is possible the group pictured were in lockdown together in the UK - and would therefore not need to be socially distant from one another.

A spokesperson for Bristol Airport said: "On Friday (24 April), the Cypriot Government arranged a flight to return passengers home from the UK to Cyprus.

"A number of UK airports have been involved with repatriation flights including Bristol Airport.

"The passengers included families and other groups who had been in lockdown together in the UK.

"Social distancing measures were maintained within the airport buildings and with enhanced cleaning measures in place.

"On arrival in Cyprus all passengers were quarantined and are now in self-isolation for 14 days."
