Man shatters servo door with hammer and threatens staff in robbery

A man smashed his way into a Canberra service station with a hammer, shattering the door and threatening a staff member.

ACT police say the man broke into the BP Service Station at the corner of Benham Street and Halley Street, Chisholm about 4am on Wednesday, March 11.

"Police allege the man seen in the CCTV footage smashed his way into the shop with a hammer before threatening a staff member and demanding cash. The man later fled the scene on foot across Isabella Drive with a sum of money," they said in a statement.

They want to talk to anyone who can identify the man, who saw the robbery or who may have dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the incident.

Anyone with information that could help is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, and quote reference 6507945.
