A man sexually touched nine people including two young girls in a Sydney shopping centre days before Christmas, police allege.

NSW Police on Friday said they arrested the 26-year-old man on December 21 after reports two girls aged six and nine had been sexually touched in the Liverpool shopping centre that afternoon.

The man had been stopped by security before he was charged with two counts of common assault and a stalking charge.

After further inquiries, police added 18 charges against him on Thursday concerning nine people including several children.

In total, he faces three sexual touching charges, four charges of sexually a child under 10 years old, two charges of sexually touching a child aged 10 to 16 years old, the stalking charge and 11 back-up counts of common assault.

The man faced Liverpool Local Court on Thursday where bail was refused.

He will return to court on January 9.
