Man set to appear in court after cyclist killed in tragic Cardross incident

A man is set to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court today (Wednesday) in connection with an incident that killed a cyclist near Cardross last night.

The 40-year-old bike rider was tragically killed after being struck at 4.45pm yesterday (Tuesday) evening by a Volkswagen Golf.

Despite emergency teams battling to save the man's life, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The busy route was closed for several hours as accident investigation teams carried out enquiries.

In a statement, Police Scotland confirmed that a man had been charged in relation to the incident - and would appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court today.

A spokesperson said: "At around 4:45pm, police received a report of a road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a Volkswagen Golf on the A814, half a mile west of Cardross. 

"Emergency services attended, however, the 40-year-old male cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators conducted enquiries. 

"A 44-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences and is due to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Wednesday November 11 2020."
