Man set to appear in Bristol Crown Court charged with murder

A 24-year-old man will appear in Bristol Crown Court charged with murder, following the death of Andre Gayle.

The 29-year-old died in hospital after being stabbed outside Easton Community Centre in the early hours of Monday, August 31.

Jerome Lewis, of Kimberley Place, Croydon, appeared before Bristol Magistrates Court, today (Tuesday, September 29).

He did not enter a plea, and will next appear in Bristol Crown Court on Thursday (October 1), at 10am.

Conditions around his bail, or whether he will have to remain in custody, will be decided at the next hearing.

Mr Gayle died in hospital two days after suffering stab wounds during an attack in Easton in the early hours of Monday, August 31.

Thirteen other people, aged between 16 and 40, have been arrested in connection with his death.

Lewis is the first person to be charged in relation to the incident.
