Man set fire on Scots railway platform before hopping on train to flee the scene

Cops are hunting a man who set a fire on a Scots train station platform before getting on a train to flee the scene.

British Transport Police have launched the probe after the railway and a fence were set ablaze causing hundreds of pounds of damage at Thorntonhall railway station in Lanarkshire.

After the incident at around 7.45pm on Saturday, May 29, the man then boarded the 8.04pm service to Giffnock.

He is described as a white male in his mid-twenties, of medium build and average height and was seen wearing all black clothing with his hood up, carrying a black backpack with a white logo.

A statement issued by British Transport Police reads: "Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to help with their investigation.

"Witnesses or anyone with information can contact BTP by texting 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 2100038449 of 29/05/21.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Earlier last month there had been a fire attack on the home of Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell in Thorntonhall.

The Parkhead boss was forced to flee after three motors were doused with an accelerant before being set alight at 1am on May 19.

Flames spread to the nearby garage property where it is believed his daughter and her four-month-old baby girl were allegedly sleeping.
