A man has been seriously assaulted 'with a weapon' after a late night rammy between two gangs in a Scots town.

Cops rushed to the scene at Trinity Place in Elgin, Moray at around 11.40pm last night after reports of an 'altercation between two groups'.

It is understood that both groups had been to the local Mcdonald's before the scrap.

One of the groups involved were travelling in a grey Audi A3 car. The other group were using a silver Mercedes.

Police found a 20-year-old man had suffered serious injuries to his leg and body, thought to have been caused by a weapon.

He was rushed to Dr Gray's hospital in the town and treated for his injuries.

The man was later released.

Cops have now appealed for information on the incident.

Police Sergeant Alex Carle of the Divisional Violence and Alcohol Reduction Unit said: “The 20-year-old victim suffered injuries to his leg and body and was treated at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin before later being released.
