Man seriously injured in Cardiff stabbing

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was stabbed in Cardiff. Police were called to the Grangetown area of the city shortly after 8.20pm on Saturday, July 8, and a cordon remained in place in Clydach Street on Sunday morning and a forensics team was taking items in evidence bags out of the taped-off block of flats.

Police have now confirmed they are investigating a reported stabbing and said a 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. A South Wales Police spokesman said on Sunday: "South Wales Police was called shortly after 8.20pm last night to a report that a man had been stabbed on Taff Embankment, Grangetown."

DCI Christine Edmunds added: "We are investigating an incident in Grangetown resulting in a man being stabbed. A 46-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in police custody at this time.

“We are appealing for anyone who was around Taff Embankment last night who may have information in relation to the assault to contact us by one of the following means quoting occurrence number 2300 22 71 68.”

One local resident said on Sunday: “The police and ambulance were outside at about 9pm yesterday. I didn’t really see much because I was busy. There had been a lot of commotion going on around 7.30pm or 8pm from inside that building, banging noises.”

Another local said: “I walked past on my way to the shop at about 8.30pm and I saw through the window there was a bit of a party going on in the ground-floor flat. I didn’t hear any music but I saw about four people in there and I could hear loud voices. It was a mix of men and women. Someone was being calmed down. It’s usually quite a quiet flat.

“On the way back from the shop the party was still going on. I got home and then some time around 9pm there were five police cars and an ambulance outside the flats and they were taped off. A police officer told us it was a serious assault.”
