Man seriously injured as people hear 'loud bang' and rush to help

A man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a car crashed into a wall in north Liverpool.

The emergency services were called out to Robson Street in the Everton area at around 1.40pm following reports that a Mitsubishi car had hit a wall.

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The extent of his injuries are not yet known.

A witness told the ECHO that they heard a "loud bang" and raced out to the scene. They said they saw a man who was injured but conscious in the passenger seat of the car.

Another said they heard an 'enormous crash' and "threw their trainers on" and ran out to see the stricken car.

Meanwhile one witness saw the fire service cutting the roof off the car, which had been heavily damaged to its passenger side, which appeared to have taken the brunt of the crash.

There were local reports that the air ambulance landed in a nearby field but that it was not used to take the injured man to hospital.
