Man seriously injured after suspected stabbing in Houghton-le-Spring

A man has been injured in a suspected stabbing in Houghton-le-Spring.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called to the scene on Tuesday afternoon following reports of a fight between two men.

The men were said to be fighting inside a private address on Burns Avenue South when one suffered injuries consistent with being stabbed.

Northumbria Police has not yet confirmed any arrests.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.16pm to a patient injured at a private address in the New Town area of Houghton.

"A number of resources were dispatched including support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service."

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Shortly after 1.10pm today (Tuesday), police received a report of a fight on Burns Avenue South, Houghton.

"It was reported two men, believed to be known to each other, were fighting inside an address resulting in one of the men sustaining serious but none life threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing.

“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
