Man seriously injured after machete attack in Waterford city

A man in his 30s was seriously injured after being attacked with a machete in the early hours of this morning.

The attack took place at around 3am at a house St Herblain Park in Waterford city when two people went to the door and found a man holding a machete.

The man forced his way into the house and assaulted a man and suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A woman in the house got a minor cut to her hand, RTE reports.

The injured man got a deep cut to his upper left thigh and a serious cut to his knee, as well as a cut to his right thigh.

Gardai and the ambulance services rushed to the scene.

No arrests were made and the scene has been preserved by gardai who are looking for witnesses.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of aggravated burglary which occurred at a house in St. Herblain Park, Co. Waterford at approximately 3:00am, 21st September 2020.

"A man armed with a weapon entered the house and assaulted a man in his 30's.

"The man in his 30's was taken to University Hospital Waterford to be treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries. "Investigation is ongoing."
