Man seriously injured after horrific ship fall at Mersey dock

A man had to be rescued using a special cage following an horrific fall into a ship's hold at a Merseyside dock.

Emergency services were called to the deep water container terminal, Liverpool2 , based in front of the Royal Seaforth Dock just before 8.30am today, Tuesday April 23.

A North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a man in his 50s has been taken to hospital after he suffered "major trauma injuries" after a "fall" at the terminal.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MF&RS) said the emergency services had to use a special cage to rescue the man after crews discovered he had fallen into the hold of a vessel - the area of a ship used for storing cargo - berthed at the docks.

A MF&RS spokeswoman said: "Fire crews were called to Seaforth Docks on Tuesday, April 23 following reports that a person had fallen into a ship's hold.

"The person was then taken to hospital by paramedics for further treatment. Crews left the scene at 9.58am."
