Man seriously injured after falling from bridge

Police, fire and the ambulance service have been in attendance at an incident in the Brislington area of Bristol this afternoon.

The alarm was raised just before 1.30pm today, Wednesday June 3, as members of the public called 999 to report that a man had fallen from the road onto a disused railway line and was injured.

Eyewitnesses said the police were on the scene in a matter of minutes, and paramedics were assisted by Avon Fire and Rescue Service to reach the man, who was injured on the disused railway track.

The incident happened on Talbot Road, on the bridge over the old railway line. The road, a local route between Brislington and Knowle, was closed for around an hour as emergency services attended the scene.

An air ambulance also attended the scene, but it is not known whether it was used to ferry the man to hospital.

The most recent update on his condition at 4pm was that the injured man was in intensive care.

A statement from Avon and Somerset police said: "Police received a call just before 1.30pm on Wednesday 3 June reporting that a man had fallen from Talbot Road, Brislington, onto a disused railway track.

"Police and fire crews are in attendance to support the ambulance service and was closed until just after 2.30pm to enable emergency services to help the man who has now been taken to hospital by ambulance," he added.
