Man seriously injured after car smashes into wall

A man has been seriously injured after a car smashed into a house in Leigh .

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash in Guest Street at about 1.15pm today (Tuesday, February 25).

The driver, a man in his 40s, was trapped inside the car.

Firefighters managed to cut him free before he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Following the crash, Guest Street was closed in both directions between Holden Road and Brewery Street.

Pictures shared on social media by Leigh resident David Fairhurst showed the damage to the car and the house.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to Guest Street in Leigh at about 1.15pm to to reports of a road traffic collision.

"We sent an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and an advanced paramedic to the scene.

"There was one patient, a man in his 40s.

"He was taken to hospital with serious injuries."
